Histovia · A history blog
About Histovia
History worth reading, with the sources close at hand.
Histovia is an English-language history blog for curious readers. Its stories range across periods and places, examining how people built societies, exercised power, fought, believed, worked, and made sense of their world.
Stories with the evidence in view
A compelling account should also show how we know. Our research-led features link to archives, museums, primary documents, and scholarship so that readers can follow the evidence beyond the article.
A surviving document is not the whole past. Official records have purposes, eyewitnesses have viewpoints, and archaeological finds answer some questions more securely than others. Where a date, number, attribution, or interpretation is disputed, the article should make that limit clear.
A way through a wide subject
The main topics organize stories by the question they pursue. Separate Era and Region labels provide chronological and geographical routes. Tags identify particular people, events, and places. One story may connect to several histories without needing several main categories.
Images have histories too
Historical photographs, objects, maps, and artworks are accompanied by source and rights information. Later depictions are identified as later depictions. Original illustrations or reconstructions are labeled so that they are not mistaken for documentary evidence.
